E-Seniors and MOOCs

 

Since 2016, E-Seniors participates in designing and creating MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses).  With our MOOCs we aim atenabling the adult learners to discover the possibility for lifelong learning via virtual training but also at raising the public awareness among senior citizens about varied topics related to active ageing, wellness and health. 

All our MOOCs use the blended learning approach including the both didactic learning materiel (videos, presentations and texts) and practical exercises (in the form of quiz and group activities). Each MOOC proposes several lessons that focus on a specific content around the general topic. During the training, new lessons are launched every two weeks onour virtual learning space, and the learners can follow the lessons remotely at moment that suits the best form them.

Also, our MOOC platforms enable the registered learners to exchange with each other or with the pedagogical teams. These MOOCs are free of charge.

These MOOCs are international cooperation projects that receive support from the EIT Health (European Institute of Innovation and Technology for Health):

FunWalking

January 2016 – July 2017

Description

The aim of this MOOC is to spread the positive message about walking and how it contributes in staying fit and healthy. In 4 lessons, this MOOC presents notably the benefits of walking for body and mind, the necessary equipment (how to choose and purchase it) as well as it gives new ideas for varied walking practices (such as Digital treasure hunt and hiking). Also, two group walks are organized in the framework of this training.

In addition, FunWalking includes digital capsules that make the learners to discover different digital tools (such as Apps or connected objects) that can be used during the walks.

This MOOC is primarily targeted for senior citizens that are motivated to stay fit. However, everyone that is interested in walking arewelcomed to join the MOOC.

DANCESalsa

Description

DANCESalsa MOOC in dedicated to dancing and specially the Salsa culture. The aim of this MOOC is not only to teach people to dance Salsa but to demonstrate how the general wellbeing can be improved via varied physical and social activities.

The 4 key lessons of this MOOC include the both theory and practice;  such as, the benefits of dancing in general for body and soul, the key concepts of Salsa (history, vocabulary, steps) and how to dance Salsa in solo or duo.  Also, two Salsa dancing lessons in a group are organized in the framework of this training.

Moreover, DANCESalsa includes digital capsules that make the learners to discover different digital tools (such as online video and music tools) that can be used for practicing Salsa.

This MOOC is primarily targeted for senior citizens that are motivated to stay fit. However, everyone that is interested in dancing and/or Salsa arewelcomed to join the MOOC.

Description

Sleeping is the central topic of this MOOC. It aims at raising the citizens’ awareness about different questions related to sleeping and its’ impact on the general wellbeing.

The MOOC includes 4 key topics notably about good sleeping habits, sleeping problems and natural treatments for the problems. It also proposes tools to monitor and to improve the sleep in easy ways.

This training is primarily targeted for senior citizens who wish to stay fit. The secondary target group are health care professionals that want to deepen their understanding about the impact of sleeping on the general wellbeing.

Citizen Health Data

Description

This training aims at empowering the European citizens to manage their own health data that is registered on various virtual services. It will inform the learners about the potential of using different online services (such as social networks and connected objects) for managing better their own health care and about how to continue preserving their privacy while using these services.

Managing their own health data should concern not only patients but every citizen, in consequence this training is for adults with basic computer skills at the user level.
